Gibson L-4 Fleur-de-lis F-Holes Sunburst 1938 w/ OHSC

Condition: Very Good

The 1930s marked a golden era for Gibson's archtop guitars, producing instruments now considered among the most coveted in the world. This L-4 exemplifies that legacy, crafted from premium Maple and Spruce selected during a time of exceptional tonal wood availability. Reintroduced in 1935 with its signature fleur-de-lis f-holes, the 16" L-4 stands as the ideal counterpart to Gibson's renowned 17" L-5 and L-7 models. Professional musicians of the era prized it for its warm, projective voice and responsive playability. The instrument showcases hand-carved Spruce top and figured Maple back, Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and elegant mother of pearl inlays culminating in the distinctive fleur-de-lis headstock design. It has a v shaped neck profile, common amongst guitars from this era.

This guitar is in very good condition for its age. It does have lots of checking as well as scratches and blemishes as can be seen in the pictures. It includes the original case as well as a photocopy of the original receipt from 1938!
